If "Open Source" doesn’t mean that the source code is openly published then it’s a misnomer.

I’m told my photo is mentioned in Shirkey’s "Here comes everything" ?? www.flickr.com/photos/aroberts/24256735/ don’t have copy.

It was quiet last night, we though we might have heard an owl. Today being a bank holiday the air is thick with lawnmowers and power tools.

Communities are not always good things. They can be homogenising, cliquey and quite nastily vindictive to members who write differently.

submitting a support ticket to DC-hosting about their server failure

Nearly two hours downtime on both domains, no reply from support ticket. Not good, and not cheap. dc-hosting.com

After 8 hours offline, I sent a second CRITICAL support ticket and suddenly both websites start working again, at last.

Fresh green leaves in the golden light. A thrush with a worm in the park. Smokers barricade pub doorways and inside, babies left crying.

I live in a village. I know because they put up a sign last year. There are five streets, houses, parking meters, flats and some rose beds.

As events unfold, we could be in for a spell under capitalism pro team A instead of pro capitalism team B. Quel horreur! business as usual.

Rain rain, go away. Come again on Saturday.

If you just use any old word to substitute for another, then language becomes a damaged tool for communication.

the critical quality of networks for me is that nodes can be several hops away from each other, and unaware of being in the same network.

whereas a community is more self aware, holistically, with each of the members feeling a sense of belonging to something.

So for me, the network is just the wires and connections, and a community is a living thing over and above it all.

There isn’t a boundary as such, because they are not things which exist on the same plane.

I notice that communities tend to fragment into networks when the backchannels and small groups are preferred over the community space.

If a new thing is born from out of an older form, then it’s not a boundary transgression, it’s a transformation. Old must be relinquished.
